What Is Buttock Augmentation?
This procedure is employed to enhance the contour and projection of the buttock. It is usually performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure.
Who Is The Good Candidate For Buttock Augmentation Using Silicone Implants?
Thin patients who do not have enough donor fat are good candidates for buttock implants. In this procedure, Silicone implants are inserted underneath the gluteal (buttock) muscles through a small incision in the lower back near the tail bone area.
How Long Does This Procedure Take? How Is The Recovery?
Standard buttock augmentation usually takes around 2-3 hours to perform. You will be encouraged to be moving and walking within 1-2 days. The patients are allowed to be back to work from 2 to 3 weeks and more strenuous activity is allowed in 4 to 6 weeks.
Who Is The Candidate For Buttock Augmentation Using Fat Transfer?
Patients with enough fat stores in their trunk or extremities are good candidates for fat transfer. In this technique, liposuction is performed in the stomach area, hips and flanks, axillary (arm pit) roll area as well as the thighs. The harvested fat will be collected under sterile technique and strained to make it thick and concentrated. This fat is washed with antibiotic solution and re-injected using special canulas into the buttock area for augmentation. Liposuction will give a better contour to these areas, an added advantage to this procedure.
Another Name For Fat Transfer To The Buttocks?
“Brazilian” buttock augmentation
How Long Does This Procedure Take And How Will Be My Recovery?
Standard fat transfer to the buttocks usually takes around 3-4 hours to perform. This depends on the areas where liposuction is performed. Recovery form this procedure ranges from 5-7 days. Patients are allowed to be back to work from 1-2 weeks.
How Would I Compare The Two Procedures?
I tend to prefer fat augmentation to silicone implants in the right candidate. You do not have to worry about a foreign device, since it is your own fat. You get the added benefit of contouring your body. Although the procedure tends to be longer, the postoperative pain is less and recovery is quicker.
Do I Need To Wear A Garment? How About Sutures?
Buttock Augmentation patients are asked to wear a girdle “compression garment” for 4-6 weeks to allow for better healing. No sutures to be removed since I use dissolvable sutures to close the wounds.
Can I Have Other Procedures Combined With Other Procedures And Is That Safe?
Breast Procedures or tummy tuck can be performed as additional procedures that may enhance the result as long as the patient’s health allows.
